ABOUT THE BAND - The Strait A Students formed in August 2005 just in time for Oryentation at the Rogue Hero. You may wonder how these brilliantly egotistical entrepreneurs ended up in the armpit of the Northwest so here's the strait up truth...

Ryan Richardson was homogenously shuttled to Bellingham, WA in a milk truck from Cy-Springs High School. Even though he was a Strait A Student, he failed to make the connection that he was actually lactose intolerant. After being locked in the back of a milk truck for 3 days with hives, the driver finally opened the back door while passing through a small town. Ryan immediately jumped out of the truck in search of food. After running several blocks from the Starving Sams on Iowa Street, he stumbled onto a field of blackberries (and we're not talking about those crappy cell phones).

Once Ryan was satisfied with the berry goodness he had so fortunately devoured, he spotted a poofy haired streaker munching down a handful himself. Enter Gabriel Rodriguez (rah-druh-gwise)... Gabriel had just recently seen the movie "A Beautiful Mind" and thought he too, was a chip off the old block and his adventure left him applying Nash's ground breaking economic theory to the photosynthesizing development of blackberry flourishment in the United States. Gabriel had been a Strait A Student his entire life, and his family in Arcata, CA would say he could have been a running back for the Oakland Raiders. He almost ended up on one of the worst football teams in the NFL until the gigantic pillow of split ends surrounding that beautiful mind led him to believe he was capable of much bigger things.

Ryan and Gabriel hit it off surprisingly well considering the awkwardness that only a naked blackberry experiment could carry. Gabriel invited Ryan to stay at his place until he got the interview for the Rocket Scientist position in the Herald, but on the way back to Gabriel's duplex they realized the missing element. That elemental brilliance happened to belong to a (should have been) pro basketball player, Joel Ion (yawn). His last name (originally spelled "Yanni"), was later changed out of hate for the new-age pop star from whom he was sharing it with. Joel didn't have the answers, he didn't have the questions, in fact, had his father not paid off his teachers, he'd have never been a Strait A Student at all... but Joel was a Strait A Student. He had something more valuable than knowledge, more appealing than sarcasm, and even more intriguing than a sophisticated rant about the state-wide smoking ban. What Joel had was titties. Not he, himself, but everyone he knew. Lots of tits. More tits than you could possibly have at your desk without causing a minor class disruption. Less than a "Girls Gone Wild" dvd, but far more than a Paris Hilton Home Video. Joel brought more milk jugs to the table than the milk truck Ryan rode in on and this time he'd be willing to tolerate it. Just one quick drink at Rumors Cabaret and the pink-shirt wearing phenomenon appeared like an angel sent from San Francisco. The last puzzle piece had fallen into place, and Strait A's were finally in sight.

Next step, they would learn to play some instruments. Through good fortune, it turned out Ryan had written a handful of songs while researching the inner workings of Buddha in an outer-body experience. This turned out to be just enough fuel to create an interesting blend of rock music with lyrics that may possibly leave you laughing harder than you did when ate your uncles shroom harvest. Either way, the Strait A Students are here to stay and we hope you make the right decision and buy a copy of their "superior to (put the name of any artist you like here)'s music" debut EP.
